THE BEAUTY OF LIGHT

While you may think I went crazy or have completely lost my mind for posting these images as "Landscape Photography", please let me explain...

I have been thinking alot about composition, light, shadows and all that stuff we landscape photographers spend out time thinking about and "feeling the scene". I have seen some amazing photographs lately in different sites and have become more convinced than ever that proper light will work wonders even if the subject is not the greatest thing on earth, well, maybe not if you have real crappy subjects, but the point is LIGHT!.

Take for instance the two photographs above, I was driving back from the Florida Keys with my son, I had been trying to get a nice sunset but came back with nothing, well, not true, I came back with 2 pelicans I shot in Key Largo when I noticed the 2 subjects above to the left of the road. I would never stop for stuff like this, the impact of light was too much for me not to stop. It was definitely "golden hour", intense orange reflections everywhere, perfect angle!, I slammed the breaks and told my son,  - did you see that!?!?, expecting to see something out of this world, he said, no!, what?!, I said LOOK AT THAT LIGHT!...  so I made a "U" turn, went back to where these 2 subjects were and shot away...

This light is the type of light that I call "melancholic", it will make you feel different kinds of things. Some feel romantic, some feel inspired to think, others to write, some feel nostalgic as memories come to mind, and some of course, will slam the breaks, turn around and shoot in the absolutely beautiful light.

Notice that the angle has to be the right one, side light is always great, contrasty, enhances   shapes, highlight and shadows...

While the subjects above may not inspire many people, with the right light, they tell a story, the convey a mood, they speak of the power and beauty of light!. I really enjoyed taking these and processing them. This is not my thing though as you can gather from my website and photo blog, but the l loved "the impact of light".

Also you may want to know that shot these at 2.8 aperture and the reason is that for shots like these you want to enhance the subject and while it muts be in focus and sharp, it helps convey the overall message to have everything else blurry and somewhat put of focus. It is a nice effect, it is a shallow depth of field that you can always get using a very wide aperture such as 2.8.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy the beauty and feeling of light in these shots.

The weekend is almost here and soon it will be Saturday, sunrise somewhere!

Hope you all are doing great, as always I thank you for stopping by and looking, I appreciate your comments and critiques.
